The Windows preview.

What Brain includes, what’s still being checked, and a few things to know before trying it.

An early Windows preview for practice and feedback.

Version 1.0.7.0 · Windows 11 · Intel or AMD 64-bit PC

Coming in Brain 1.0.8 for Windows

We are preparing an update focused on call recording, clearer live text, and a more responsive meeting assistant. It includes an optional English live speaker preview for supported PCs. The preview distinguishes anonymous voices, is off by default, and does not change the tools used for saved transcripts.

The update is still completing real-world recording checks. The available Windows download remains 1.0.7.0. Speaker labels can be wrong, especially for short or overlapping replies; always review important details.

What changed in 1.0.7.0

A polish and reliability update: People opens quickly even on a large library, wording and layout are clearer across the app, and automatic background AI work is capped to save your battery.

Faster with large libraries

  • People and its Directory tab now open in about a second, even on a library with thousands of voices. They used to take from a few seconds to over a minute and a half.
  • The Directory tab shows its own list again, instead of sometimes showing People’s review list.

Clearer wording throughout

  • Settings, setup, Today, Record, Speak, the meeting assistant, Review, Library, Trash, People and Actions get clearer wording and small layout fixes, closely matching Brain for Mac.
  • Brain’s on-device model is now called Brain’s private AI everywhere, and speaker name settings moved to Settings, Recording & transcripts.
  • Today explains why a meeting still needs your attention, for example Recovery needs you or No draft yet, and shows a Try again message if it can’t load.
  • Review stays readable with large text in a small window, Ctrl+Z undoes your most recent change first, and the mouse back button works in Review and People.
  • Actions from a meeting that was combined with others and later moved to Trash stay listed in Actions, marked as coming from an earlier meeting.
  • People’s review card keeps its decision buttons in view and offers ranked name suggestions with number keys.

Setup and the tray

  • The tray shows one line about whether Brain is ready to record, and links you to whatever needs attention.
  • If you skip Check Brain works, Brain reminds you until you run it or finish a meeting, including after restoring your library onto a new PC.
  • If your microphone check fails, Brain offers to open your microphone privacy settings.

Accessibility, reliability and battery use

  • Brain announces status changes more consistently for screen readers, and selection and status colours keep working with a high-contrast theme.
  • Fixed a rare error that could interrupt startup, search or an assistant tool call under heavy background load.
  • Automatic background work finding speaker names is now capped at 10 requests or 5 minutes of work per hour. Meetings recorded before this update don’t get this automatic work; you can still ask for names from People with Suggest names.
  • Ollama and LM Studio connections no longer spend their answer on internal thinking, so meeting chat shows the actual answer.

Your meetings, recordings and settings are kept when you update. See Updates and moving your work before updating from 1.0.3.19 or earlier.

What Brain includes

  • Guided setup for speech, summaries, and questions about your meetings.
  • Conversation recording and audio import, with live and saved transcripts and automatic matching to voices you have already named.
  • Editable summaries, suggested decisions, and next steps you can approve.
  • A meeting assistant for questions during a conversation or when reviewing it later.
  • A searchable meeting library and full backups that include recordings.
  • Light and dark appearance, with a navigation menu for smaller windows.

What’s still being checked

Brain is an early preview for practice and feedback. Physical microphones and live calls have not been checked for this preview. These areas remain unverified:

  • Real microphones and computer audio during calls.
  • Longer meetings, changing audio devices, and putting the PC to sleep.

The speech models in this preview support English. Live transcription and automatic matching to voices you have already named have been measured using test recordings on one desktop PC. Laptop performance has not been measured, and processing may be slower.

Google and Microsoft calendar sign-in is not enabled yet. You can add calendar links or import calendar files in Settings.

Before your first meeting

Start with a short practice conversation. Tell everyone before recording and check that you can hear every audio source afterward.

The first setup needs an internet connection and room for the speech and summary tools. After setup, those tools can work on your PC without sending meeting content to an online AI service.

Transcripts, summaries, and chat answers can miss details. Review anything important before relying on it or sharing it. Keep another copy of recordings and notes you want to retain.

A personal signing certificate can still produce a Windows security warning. The first installation asks an administrator to trust Sami Shariff’s app certificate. The setup guide explains what to expect.

Updates and moving your work

The installed app asks before updating by default. You can also choose installation when you exit after saving. Brain reminds you when a checked update is ready, shows what’s new in it, and lets you skip a version.

Keep a full backup before trying an update. Version 1.0.7.0 uses the same saved meeting format as 1.0.6.0, so returning to 1.0.6.0 needs no restore. Updating from 1.0.3.19 or earlier changes the saved meeting format, and Brain keeps a copy of your meeting database from before the upgrade; returning to 1.0.3.19 or earlier requires restoring that copy. If an update fails, keep your existing app and ask Sami for help.

If you have an earlier portable preview, use the Settings option that imports an earlier preview’s work to bring its work into the installed app. Keep the original folder until you’ve checked the imported meetings and recordings.
