A little help getting started.

From your first setup to finding a saved conversation. Here’s where to begin.

An early Windows preview for practice and feedback. See the preview notes before you begin.

Version 1.0.7.0 · Windows 11 · Intel or AMD 64-bit PC

Install and set up Brain

Choose an edition on the Brain home page. The Microsoft Store and website editions have separate libraries and may receive updates at different times. The version above refers to the website edition.

Microsoft Store

Choose Get Brain from the Microsoft Store, then install Brain Meeting Memory by TheExalted. Microsoft Store handles installation and updates; you do not need to trust a personal signing certificate.

Website download

Download Brain from the Brain home page, then open the setup file and follow the instructions.

Windows may show a security warning because Sami shares Brain with a personal signing certificate. The first installation asks an administrator to trust Sami Shariff’s app certificate. If you’re unsure about a prompt, ask Sami or the person who manages your PC. You do not need to turn off Windows security or enable developer mode.

First setup in either edition

Open Brain from your Start menu and choose Set up Brain. Brain guides you through downloading the speech and summary tools and checking your microphone. Keep your internet connection available until the downloads finish.

If setup is interrupted, open Brain and try again. Completed downloads are kept.

Start with a short recording

  1. Choose Record and select your microphone.
  2. Speak for a few seconds, then stop and listen back.
  3. For a call, check that the recording includes the computer audio too.

Tell everyone before you record. Use a practice conversation first, and keep another copy of anything important while you try the preview.

After a meeting, review the transcript and summary. Speech recognition can miss names or details, so check the parts you plan to use or share.

Add your calendar

Open Settings, then choose Calendar. You can add a calendar link or import a calendar file.

Google and Microsoft calendar sign-in is not enabled in this preview. Keep private calendar links out of screenshots and public messages.

Keep Brain up to date

Microsoft Store edition

Microsoft Store manages application updates. Use the update control in Brain Settings to open Microsoft Store, then check for updates there. Keep a complete backup before updating.

Website edition

Updates appear in Settings when a newer version is available. Keep a full backup before trying an update.

Open Settings to check. If an update is available, choose Update and restart when your work is finished. You can also choose automatic installation when you exit after saving.

Closing the window may leave Brain running near the clock. Choose Exit Brain to close it fully. If an update fails, keep your existing app and ask Sami for help before uninstalling anything.

Keep a copy of your work

To move records between the editions, choose Back up everything in the source edition and save the complete backup outside its app-data folder. In the other edition, choose Restore a complete backup, then exit and reopen Brain. Restoring replaces the destination library; it does not merge libraries. Account sign-ins and downloaded models are not included.

Update the destination edition first. A backup made by a newer Brain may require a later update of the other edition; some website-edition backups need a newer Store update before they can be restored. If restore asks for a newer version, keep using the original edition and retain its backup until that update is available.

Resetting or uninstalling the Microsoft Store edition removes its local records and downloads. Keep a complete backup in Documents, another drive or another folder outside the app before resetting or uninstalling it.

Daily backups protect your meeting records. To include your recordings, choose Back up everything. Save a full backup to a separate drive if the meetings matter to you.

Backups can contain private conversations. Choose a storage location you trust, and keep the original app folder when moving from an earlier preview until you’ve checked the imported meetings.

If something goes wrong

You can’t hear a recording

Stop recording and check your microphone connection and Windows microphone privacy settings. Make another short recording before continuing.

A recording has not finished processing

Open Activity to see its current stage. If Brain is waiting for your PC to free up memory or processing power, close other large apps and leave Brain open; it will resume from its saved stage. For a recording that needs attention, select it and choose Try selected meeting again. If the problem continues, save a diagnostic report using the steps below.

Brain closed unexpectedly

Reopen Brain and follow any recovery instructions before starting another recording.

You need a hand

Contact Sami through your usual private channel. Explain what you were trying to do and what happened. If Brain opens, go to Help & about and choose Report a problem. Review the report, then choose Save report before sharing it.

Keep recordings, meeting text, passwords, sign-in codes, account details, and private calendar links out of public messages. If you can’t open Brain, tell Sami your Windows version and what happened just before the problem.
