The Mac preview.
What Brain includes, what’s still being checked, and a few things to know before trying it.
Version 0.2.82 · 93 MB
macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later · Apple silicon Mac
What’s new in 0.2.82
Updates now show a progress bar with how much has downloaded and about how long is left, and a download that drops picks up where it stopped. Before setup downloads its models, Brain checks the connection and says straight away if a VPN, proxy, firewall or sign-in page is in the way.
If recording stops by itself, Brain checks a second time before deciding the call is over, and when one meeting runs straight into the next it records the next one too. If a call’s audio stays silent, the warning has a Repair call audio button instead of Brain rebuilding its recording setup on its own. Quitting while Brain is saving waits for it to finish, and Discard in the menu-bar popup works again when another app is in front.
Making a backup no longer holds up the app, even with the backup folder on a slow network drive, and the copy Brain keeps before an update is now moved into your backup folder.
The recording changes have not yet been tried on real calls.
What’s new in 0.2.81
Brain now tells you within seconds when a recording isn’t capturing sound: no audio when it starts, audio lost mid-call, or a minute of silence from the call. If recording stops by itself during a call, Brain starts it again and keeps your microphone setting and mute state; on Teams the rest of the call is saved as its own meeting. After you unmute in Zoom, your first words are kept.
Restore from Backup… in Settings brings your library back from a backup, showing its date and meeting count first, and sets your current library aside rather than deleting it. After a failed update, Brain offers Use the Copy from Before the Update…. Backups are kept for six months, Brain warns you when none has succeeded for two days, and it skips a backup that would leave too little room to record.
Adding a cloud AI connection now says what went wrong, with one Connect button, and Use built-in AI only lets you finish setup. Processing waits and tries again after a brief failure, quitting no longer counts against a meeting, and a step that hangs no longer holds up your other meetings. Live text stops within about 30 seconds when a recording ends.
The new recording alerts and the automatic restart have not yet been tried on real calls.
What’s new in 0.2.80
Live transcripts should no longer go silent for one side of a meeting. Brain fixes the cause of your voice or the call audio sometimes getting no live text for a whole call, even though it was recorded and appeared in the transcript afterwards.
If live text for one side isn’t coming through, the live pane now says so. Your recording is unaffected and the full transcript is still made after the meeting.
This fix has not yet been confirmed across real meetings.
What’s new in 0.2.79
Confirming or assigning a voice in People is immediate: keep working while Brain re-checks the names in other meetings a few at a time, and finishes the rest once you pause.
Confirming a voice no longer freezes the window or slows People afterwards, and People no longer regroups every unnamed voice each time a background name update lands. Summaries no longer show a raw speaker reference in place of a name; an affected draft is repaired the first time this version opens.
Performance during real recording and transcription has not yet been verified in this version.
What’s new in 0.2.78
People shows your voices, quotes and identity controls before optional voice-profile statistics finish loading. During a recording, find a live speaker by name, email or organization, choose a result with the keyboard, and create a new person in a separate field; people with the same name show more context so you can choose the right one.
Double-click anywhere across an action row to open its context. People and action context do less repeated work on large libraries, action edits and Undo stay current while context loads, and repeated passages from the same live naming action no longer produce repeated conflict notices.
Large People lists can still pause briefly while appearing. Performance during real recording and transcription has not yet been verified.
What’s new in 0.2.77
Speak shows “Getting mic ready…” and “Wait before speaking” before switching to “Listening,” giving AirPods and other Bluetooth microphones a short settling interval. Cancelling a short press keeps the bubble stable as it fades away.
Open Report a problem from the toolbar, recording controls, or Settings. Add a description and optional screenshots, review the report locally, then attach it and submit it on GitHub. Automatic diagnostics exclude recording audio and transcript text; descriptions and screenshots must be reviewed before public sharing.
Improved diagnostics retain evidence of missing or stalled live transcription across app restarts. System-audio transcription can recover when thermal conditions improve while recording is paused. This release does not claim to resolve every cause of intermittent transcription stalls.
What’s new in 0.2.76
Brain limits automatic speaker-name assistance for new meetings and waits for your explicit request before revisiting older meetings. In People, preview Recent 5 or Selected meetings, then choose Suggest names, Pause, Continue or Cancel remaining work.
Failed pages offer Retry remaining without repeating completed work. Dismissed suggestions survive later pages, conflicts withdraw earlier offers, and relevant edits can use a meeting’s remaining allowance without restarting historical work. Optional enrichment yields to recording and resource pressure.
This release does not claim to resolve the separate intermittent live-transcription stall.
What’s new in 0.2.75
Stops unnecessary background AI load and adds Use built-in AI only in Settings → AI & Summaries. Brain bounds speaker-identification requests, remembers progress and retry limits, and keeps local speaker clues available while a connection is offline.
Built-in fallback now covers all AI features with compatible request sizes. Turning on built-in-only mode cancels other AI connections and pauses their polling while preserving your saved connection settings. Existing unconfirmed speaker suggestions receive one bounded refresh after upgrading.
What’s new in 0.2.74
Install the latest Brain update from 0.2.72 without being rolled back after the new app opens.
Fixed a compatibility error between the older updater and the new app’s startup confirmation. This update includes all the improvements listed below for 0.2.73, including the Speak resetting fix.
What’s new in 0.2.73
Review actions with their context, keep your place while naming voices, and dictate again without getting stuck at “Speak is resetting.”
What's new
- Actions have clearer titles and a detail view with the supporting transcript. Group them by due date or meeting, and review items that need context before using them.
- Browse Completed and Dismissed actions separately in History, restore them, and undo your changes. You can also review older action suggestions through an explicit cleanup step.
- People keeps its loaded state while you review voices. Sample checks show progress and offer Pause and Resume, with more consistent undo for naming decisions.
- Brain checks past meetings for known voices when it is not recording or processing, and checks again after learning more voices. Control this in Settings under Speaker names.
- Turn on Daily update check in Settings to hear when a release is available, read What's new, and choose Remind me tomorrow or Skip this version. Downloads and installation remain your choice.
- Connected assistants with review access can follow live transcripts, read draft reports, help correct speakers, edit reports and associate calendar context through MCP and the command line. Your reports still wait for approval.
- Reports have clearer editing and discard controls, and bulk Trash in Today can be undone.
Fixes
- Speak checks the microphone when you press, fixing stale Bluetooth microphone setup after a call. A stuck cleanup no longer rejects every press with “Speak is resetting. Try again.”
- Speak accounts for empty-field placeholders in Claude and Slack and gives the editor longer to confirm insertion, reducing false “Check the field” messages when your words have landed.
- Model downloads verify the expected files and safely handle interrupted downloads. Brain-created local data and backups have tighter file permissions, and routine voice-merge logs omit personal names.
Under the hood
Your library upgrades from schema 42 to 44 on first launch, with a backup before migration. Existing recordings and approved reports are retained.
What Brain includes
- Automatic recording of Zoom and Microsoft Teams calls after you say yes, and any conversation on request.
- A live transcript during the call, grouped into readable paragraphs, with your voice and the call audio kept separate.
- A meeting helper you can ask while the call is still going, or when you come back to a saved meeting.
- A transcript that shows who said what, and an editable summary after the call, with decisions and next steps linked to what was said.
- Voice learning, so the people you meet with are named on later transcripts.
- A searchable meeting library, daily backups of your meeting library, and updates that install themselves.
What’s still being checked
Brain is an early preview for practice and feedback. These are the known rough edges:
- On rare calls the live transcript shows only your side, or stops partway through. The recording continues and the full transcript is written when the call ends. If it happens, tell Sami which call it was.
- Long calls on a warm Mac: Brain slows the live transcript down to keep the recording safe. The full transcript after the call is unaffected.
- Live text works best when the call runs through headphones or a headset. Through speakers, your own voice can be picked up twice.
- Names on transcripts improve as Brain hears people more often. Early on, expect some unnamed speakers.
If you installed version 0.2.52, download 0.2.53 from the Mac setup page once. From 0.2.53 onward, Brain updates itself.
Before your first meeting
Start with a short practice recording of yourself. Tell everyone before recording a call, and check that you can hear both sides afterward.
The first recording needs an internet connection so Brain can download the speech-recognition files it runs on your Mac. After that, speech recognition and summaries run on your Mac without sending meeting content to an online service, unless you connect one in Settings.
Transcripts, summaries, and helper answers can miss details. Review anything important before relying on it or sharing it, and keep another copy of recordings and notes you want to retain.
Updates
Turn on Daily update check in Settings to hear when a newer version is available. Download and install when you choose. Choose Install and Relaunch when you are not recording; your meetings are kept. If an update ever fails, Brain restores the version you had.
You can always check by hand with Brain › Check for Updates…, or download the latest version from the Mac setup page.
